Only one in 1,000 people is truly “heart healthy,” according to doctors examining healthy living guidelines. That leaves the rest of us in dire need of diet and lifestyle changes.
Luckily, the American Heart Association has made a list of 7 steps to follow as guidelines to ensure heart health and lower risk for cardiovascular disease. The Simple Seven are:
- Not smoking
- Being physically active
- Not being overweight
- Maintaining healthy cholesterol levels
- Keeping blood pressure down
- Regulating blood sugar levels
- Eating healthily.
Additionally, those who adhere to six or seven of the criteria have a 51 per cent lower chance of getting cancer than those who met none.
