Sleep Improves Heart Health

According to a new research, getting a good night’s rest can help squeeze more mileage out of your current healthy behaviors.

In the 12-year study of more than 14,000 men and women ages 20 to 65, researchers first looked at how the combination of exercise, diet, not smoking, and moderate alcohol intake were effective in preventing the disease. Participants who adopted the behaviors were 57% less likely to develop the disease and had 67% less chances of dying from it.

Next, the researchers looked at how a good night’s rest had an effect on a heart-healthy lifestyle. Participants who have seven or more hours of sleep along with the four healthy habits were 65% less likely to develop cardiovascular diseases and had 83% lower chances of dying from the disease.
