Endurance Training May Cause Right Ventricular Dysfunction

Athletes who take part in intense endurance exercise like marathons, endurance triathlons, alpine cycling, or ultra triathlons may suffer from an acute dysfunction of their right ventricles say researchers.

The study was published in the European Heart Journal. Forty athletes were involved in the study. Though the damage was reversed after a week of competitive event, five of those athletes showed evidence of a more permanent damage. The MRI result showed scarring of the heart muscle.
