Dr. Dean Ornish was the first doctor to give a documented proof that heart disease can be eliminated or reversed. Dr. Mehmet Oz talks to Dr. Ornish about preventing and even reversing the effects of heart disease and other chronic diseases.
According to Dr. Ornish, a low-fat, high-fiber diet, exercise, and medication are all helpful in fighting heart disease. Though surgery and drugs help, they don’t really address the underlying cause of sickness.
Dr. Ornish said that there are many chronic diseases that can be influenced by one’s diet and lifestyle like prostate cancer, breast cancer, hypertension, diabetes, obesity, and arthritis. To maintain a healthy heart, he recommends a low-fat, low-meat way of eating with no more than 10% of calories from fat.
