Beetroot to Improve Heart Health

According to researchers at the University of Reading, bread baked with beetroot can significantly improve heart health because it has the effect of reducing blood pressure and also improving the function of blood vessels.

What is in beetroot that makes it beneficial for the heart? Beetroots naturally contain dietary nitrate and is responsible for the beneficial effects on blood vessel function and blood pressure. Dietary nitrate can also be found in other vegetables like spinach, lettuce, and rocket.

When the dietary nitrate is eaten, it produces nitric oxide in the walls of the blood vessels, according to researchers. This causes the vessels to relax and increase the blood flow.
