Low-Carb Diets May Be Bad for the Heart

Posted 11 years ago

A 25-year-study revealed that a diet low in carbohydrates can actually raise your chances for heart diseases. This is surprising because popular belief has made us think otherwise.

“While low carbohydrate/high fat diets may help short-term weight loss,” cautioned researcher Ingegerd Johansson, PhD, in a release, “these results … demonstrate that long-term weight loss is not maintained, and that this diet increases blood cholesterol which has a major impact on risk of cardiovascular disease.”

Bread and rice lovers out there can rejoice in the fact that skipping a low-carb diet isn’t necessarily bad for you.
