Attention all cigarette smokers! Although it is incredibly difficult to quit the habit of smoking, studies have shown that there is a way to boost heart health even with your regular nicotine fix.
“We have demonstrated that omega-3 fatty acid supplements improve endogenous fibrinolysis [the breakdown of blood clots] and endothelial function in healthy cigarette smokers, a group of high risk of cardiac events,” wrote researchers from the University of Edinburgh (Scotland), Wellington Hospital (New Zealand), and Wythenshawe Hospital (Manchester, UK).
The best thing for smokers to do is to stop smoking all together. However, for those who continue with their habit, it’s good for them to know that there is still a way to boost cardiac health and reduce risk for heart diseases.
